In 2015, Mexican farmed shrimp production increased to 90,600 metric tons, a 4.5% increase over 2014, according to preliminary figures from the National Committee of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA).  At the Global Seafood Market Conference in Miami (January 19-21, 2016), however, the conference’s shrimp panel reported that production had recovered to 100,0000 metric tons in 2015 and projected that it would reach 110,000 tons in 2016.  “We are stocking cautiously, so we think we will have a 10% increase,” said a panelist with a Mexican shrimp company.

Last year’s volumes, however, were far from the “golden years” of several years ago when EMS slashed output in Sinaloa, Nayarit and Sonora.
